The stage direction is an integral part of the contract between the organiser/production management and the artist. A stage direction contains all the important information for preparing and executing an event in writing. Stage directions are particularly extensive in the touring business and in theatre. It includes, for example, information about the equipment that must be available and everything that is brought along (including stage sets, decorations, technical equipment, barriers, etc.). The stage directions include a detailed list of which vehicles must be provided, whether a hotel should be booked and, if so, which one (or what requirements the hotel should meet).
Above all, local helpers at the venue are important for the success of an event. Therefore, an exact number of these will also be specified and included in the stage directions.
For the artists / tour crew, nutrition on a tour or similar is very important, so there are also wishes and requirements for the catering. Often a stage direction for catering wishes contains a catering rider, which includes an exact number of all the food and drinks that are desired.
Further details included in a stage direction are, for example, information about the daily schedule of the production. A schedule is indispensable for a production, so that all preparations can be made by show time.
It also includes details about rigging, the number and size of the artists' dressing rooms and how they need to be equipped, important contact persons and their phone numbers, and much more information.
