The NFPA is the National Fire Protection Association in Massachusetts, USA. The NFPA 701 is a fire test for curtains and drapes. The test determines the flammability of the fabric.
To do this, the material to be tested is held vertically over a flame for 12 seconds. The material passes the fire test if it extinguishes itself within 2 seconds of removal from the source of the fire. In addition, the length of the charred areas must be less than 6.5 inches and the fabric must stop burning as soon as it comes into contact with the ground.
