DIN 13164

The German industrial standard 13164 is a safety standard for first aid kits in motor vehicles. The standard for first aid kits specifies the exact contents of the kit. The obligation to carry a first aid kit in a vehicle is regulated in § 35h of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO ).

A first aid kit for cars must contain the following according to DIN 13164:

• 1 adhesive plaster, DIN 13019-A, 5 m x 2.5 cm
• 4 adhesive bandages, DIN 13019-E, 10 cm x 6 cm
• 2 first-aid dressings, DIN 13151-M
• 1 first-aid dressing pack, DIN 13151-G
• 2 medical face masks, at least type 1, according to DIN EN 14683
• 1 bandage, DIN 13152-A, 60 cm x 80 cm
• 6 compresses, 10 cm x 10 cm
• 2 Fixation bandages, DIN 61634-FB-6
• 3 fixation bandages, DIN 61634-FB-8
• 1 triangular bandage, DIN 13 168-D
• 1 rescue blanket, 210 x 160 cm
• 1 first-aid scissors, DIN 58279-A 145
• 4 disposable gloves, DIN EN 455
• 1 first-aid brochure
• 2 wet wipes for cleaning the skin
• 1 14-part first-aid plaster set
• 1 first-aid dressing

Revised standard:
The standard was revised in February 2022 (DIN 13164:2022). The relevant paragraph in the StVZO (§35h) has not yet been changed (as of January 2023). The ADAC points out on its homepage that the first aid kits that have been valid so far can still be used until their expiry date.

The following medical devices have been added:

• Two medical face masks, at least type 1, according to DIN EN 14683.

The following medical devices have been deleted without replacement:

• A triangular bandage
• dressing (40x60 cm)
