Backline

The backline is the part of the PA system that is used by the artists directly on stage at music events. For example, guitar amplifiers, bass amplifiers, loudspeaker boxes and similar equipment belong to the backline. The name backline comes from the fact that these amplifiers are usually placed behind the musicians on stage.
However, the term backline refers not only to amplifiers and monitors on stage, but also to the instruments themselves.
Since not all musicians need backlines these days, dummies are often used to create the right stage setting.
