Bootleg
The term bootleg refers to the illegal distribution of unauthorised merchandise products. LPs that are/were distributed in this way are often referred to as black pressings.
The term is derived from the English word for the act of smuggling whiskey or schnapps across the American borders. This gave rise to the neologism "to bootleg" for smuggling.
There are many labels dedicated to the illegal marketing of bootlegs, which are solely responsible for distributing recordings or cheap and imitation merchandise.
