Festoons form parallel or diagonal lines on stages, which do not necessarily have to be visible to the audience from the front. Actors can use these lines to enter or leave the stage set. However, festoons are also used to give a stage more "depth" or to create spatial effects. Festoons are also used to cover stage elements. So-called festoon drapes are often made of black molton fabric. Molton is a flame-retardant, opaque stage fabric with sound-absorbing properties.
