Molton is flame retardant in accordance with DIN 4102 and DIN EN 13501-1
Stage molton and decorative molton from allbuyone are generally equipped with the B1 fire protection certificate in accordance with DIN 4102 for flame-retardant materials. In addition, stage molton from allbuyone complies with classification C-s1, d0 according to the Europe-wide DIN EN 13501-1 standard. There is an additional standard for the classification of textiles – curtains and drapes: EN 13773. This standard contains a classification scheme for the fire behaviour of curtains and drapes. Stage molton is also certified according to this EN 13773 standard. Stage curtains made of flame-retardant molton comply with most fire safety requirements of authorities and insurance companies. This means that curtains made of B1 molton can be used in stage construction in theatres, concert halls, town halls and other public venues.
Stage and theatre curtains – opaque and light-tight
Stage molton is a dense, high-quality cotton fabric that is opaque and light-proof, and in black it is almost completely light-proof. This reliably separates the stage from the auditorium when the curtain is closed. These properties are particularly appreciated by event technicians, especially lighting technicians. As a light-tight technical fabric, molton is also used in stage technology as a backdrop and blackout fabric.
Sound-absorbing stage curtain
A stage curtain made of flame-retardant molton is also perfect for event rooms in terms of acoustics: the fabric is roughened on both sides, which means that a molton curtain improves the acoustic quality and reduces reverberation during performances in theatres, auditoriums, concert halls and town halls. In cinemas or at events, stage molton reliably absorbs sound and background noise.
Stage curtain with eyelets and hemmed - various sizes
Nickel-plated, rustproof brass eyelets are located at the top edge of the stage curtain at intervals of 25 cm, and a webbing strap is sewn into this hem for reinforcement. The remaining three sides of the theatre curtain are hemmed or finished with fixed selvedges, depending on the curtain dimensions.
Stage and theatre curtains are available in the following sizes (these curtains are ready for dispatch from stock):
- 3 x 3 m (3 m side with eyelets)
- 3 x 6 m (3 m side with eyelets)
- 6 x 3 m (6 m side with eyelets)
- 6 x 4 m (6 m side with eyelets)
- 6 x 5 m (6 m side with eyelets)
- 12 x 5 m (12 m side with eyelets)
Note: The stage curtains are hemmed at the bottom and have fixed selvedges at the sides. The 6 x 3 metre stage curtain has a hemmed 6 m wide side and a fixed selvedge at the bottom. The high-quality finish with hem and selvedges prevents the curtains from fraying.
By the way: The eyeleted stage molton can be used as a main curtain or as a backdrop, as well as for blackout curtains.
Custom-made theatre curtains
In addition to the standard designs mentioned above, stage molton curtains can also be customised as follows:
- Stage curtain with ruffle tape
- Stage curtain with Velcro tape and fleece tape
- Stage curtain with simple hem
- Stage curtain with hemstitching
- Stage curtain with pleating tape
- Stage curtain with tiebacks
- Stage curtain with lead tape
Further finishing options such as gathering curtains or soffits to conceal rail systems and stage machinery are available on request.
With the pleating tape, you can define firmly sewn pleats on the curtain. Choose between single and double pleating, for example. The pleat spacing in the curtain is approx. 9 cm.
Note: For stage curtains that are finished with pleating tape or ruffle tape, please allow sufficient fabric for the pleats when ordering. We would be happy to advise you personally!
Stage curtains in other colours
Stage molton in black is the classic choice for stage curtains in stage construction. On request, the curtain is available in 10 other colours, ready made.
Note on colour: Molton is a natural product, slight variations in colour between different batches may occur. We would be happy to send you sample cards for exact colour matching.
Stage curtain as backdrop
Alternatively, the stage curtain can also be used as a backdrop (stage background). As the curtain is eyelet-finished and without folds, it can also be mounted as a smooth backdrop for stage backgrounds. The positive properties of black molton – matt, sound-absorbing and almost light-tight – are also advantageous here.
Care instructions for molton curtains
Molton is made of cotton fabric and is generally very easy to care for. Molton is impregnated to be flame retardant, but this flame retardant impregnation is lost through washing. This also applies to damp storage conditions and long storage periods. The fabric can be re-impregnated with flame retardants, but only when applied correctly will it be flame retardant again in accordance with DIN 4102. Further important information on caring for molton can be found in the information sheet in the data sheets section.
Does your stage curtain or backdrop have creases after storage? Simply hang it up in good time – thanks to its high weight of 300 grams per m², the fabric usually hangs itself out after a while.
Stage curtain fastening – which accessories?
Curtain rails, hooks or Holdon clips – how the curtains are attached depends on how the molton is customised. Stage curtains with ruffle tape are suitable for a curtain rail system, for example. The ruffle tape has a loop tape that can be attached to the curtain rail with hooks. Curtains with tiebacks can be tied to trusses and poles. Special hooks are required for motorised curtains.
