Use Spray chalk from a can
The chalk paint in cans is easy to use, even children usually have no problem with the spray cans. However, please do not allow children to spray without supervision!
- Shake the can well before use
- Perform a spray test
- Mark/label from a distance of approx. 25 cm
- Hold the spray can vertically downwards, especially when marking the floor
- Finished! The paint is dry in 3 minutes (allbuyone chalk spray) or approx. 10 minutes (GRIP chalk spray).
Marker spray with practical overhead nozzle
The TIC-CAP overhead nozzle allows you to spray the spray paint with one hand, without any spray loss and with precise lines. A special cap protects your hands from paint stains.
Particularly practical: GRIP chalk spray has a rotating safety cap. This prevents chalk from escaping, even during turbulent delivery or careless handling.
Which surfaces are suitable for spraying with water-soluble chalk paint?
Washable chalk-based marking spray is a versatile marker. The paint adheres to almost all smooth, textured, porous and even damp surfaces and is perfect for temporary marking and temporary decorative designs. After spraying, the chalk remains on the surface and does not bond with the surface or sprayed material. Spray chalk can be wiped off or washed off, especially from smooth surfaces, and leaves no residue.
In general, both chalk sprays are suitable for many different surfaces, but due to the longer durability of GRIP spray chalk, we recommend the following division:
allbuyone chalk spray | GRIP chalk spray | |
Asphalt | yes | limited* |
Concrete | yes | limited* |
Grass | yes | yes |
Sand | yes | yes |
Soil | yes | yes |
Snow | yes | yes |
Glass | yes | yes |
Metal | yes | Yes |
foils | yes | yes |
Wood | yes | limited* |
*GRIP spray generally has a longer shelf life, which is further extended on porous surfaces.
We generally recommend always carrying out a spray test on a small area beforehand to check the surface for material compatibility.
Special care should be taken with highly absorbent and painted surfaces. This is not due to the chalk itself, but to the alcohol content in the spray.
Marking spray CFC-free and organically degradable
The chalk in the spray paint is plant-friendly and biodegradable. The added alcohol evaporates shortly after spraying. The spray is environmentally friendly and CFC-free.

What is spray chalk?
Spray chalk is a very finely pigmented chalk-based paint, whose particles are dissolved in alcohol to keep them liquid in the can. When sprayed, the alcohol evaporates immediately and the chalk settles on the sprayed surface. Unlike spray varnish, in which the colour pigments are additionally mixed with adhesive binders, chalk spray is water-soluble – because the chalk paint lies pure on the surface. The spray paint therefore does not actively adhere to the substrate.
How long does spray chalk last?
The durability of allbuyone spray chalk is generally approx. 10 to 15 days. The GRIP chalk spray lasts longer, depending on the surface, up to several weeks.
However, this information does not take into account specific surfaces (smooth, porous) or weather conditions and mechanical abrasion affecting the sprayed surface. In favourable conditions, the chalk spray may adhere for longer in exceptional cases.
The durability of the washable chalk paint depends on:
- the thickness of the sprayed layer
- mechanical abrasion, for example from cars or pedestrians
- the weather (heavy or frequent rain, high temperatures)
- pigment drift during spraying
As a general rule, the more porous the surface and the less water that comes into contact with the paint, the longer the chalk spray will adhere. Please note: On some materials, such as markings on asphalt in midsummer, the paint may penetrate the tar when the surface begins to melt due to heat.
How do I remove spray chalk?
Removing spray chalk is usually child's play. The smoother the sprayed surface, the easier it is to remove chalk spray. In most cases, water-soluble spray chalks can simply be washed off with rain or water.
On porous surfaces, such as floor markings on asphalt, pebbles or structured sandstone, the chalk sometimes adheres longer. This is not due to the poor solubility of the chalk paint itself, but to the difficulty of reaching the deposited chalk residues. The fine colour pigments settle in the recesses and joints as spray mist or dissolved in water. The paint then remains there longer if sufficient drainage cannot be provided. Abrasion also removes spray chalk, for example through foot traffic or cars.
If you want to remove the spray chalk prematurely, the paint can be dissolved with warm water and washed away with the aid of a broom, brushes, sponges or a high-pressure cleaner. Sand can also help to increase friction on deeper surfaces. Liquid detergent concentrate can also be used (near suitable drainage points). As a general rule, spray chalk can be removed more quickly in light colours than in dark colours such as red or black.
In general, GRIP chalk spray lasts longer than allbuyone spray chalk!
Test the durability and removability of the spray chalk before use by applying a small amount to an inconspicuous area of the paint surface. This will allow you to check in advance how long the markings will last at the desired application site.

Compatibility of spray chalk – notes
Our spray chalk is designed for use on a wide range of surfaces. However, you should always test a small area before use to check the adhesion and compatibility of the spray chalk.
You should also make sure that the spray paint can be removed again within the desired time frame. The durability of chalk spray varies depending on the weather and is mainly dependent on the surface to which it is sprayed. On rough and porous surfaces, the chalk settles in depressions. In this case, cleaning with water, a broom or a high-pressure cleaner may be necessary. This is not due to the adhesion of the chalk itself, but to the difficulty of reaching the particles in the relief of deeply structured surfaces. This is also the case, for example, with the fine-pored, crystalline and reflective surface of zebra crossings, which are not suitable for chalk spray.
Spray chalk on the skin
Children in particular are inexperienced in handling spray cans, so a few splashes of paint on the skin are bound to happen. This is not a problem. Chalk is skin-friendly per se; the alcohol in which the fine colour pigments are dissolved would be more of a problem. Therefore, spray chalk should not be purchased for use on the skin.
Storage and safety instructions for spray chalk
The spray can is pressurised, so children should always be supervised when using it. Do not attempt to open the spray chalk container by force during or after use. Likewise, do not use the chalk spray in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 50°C. Please do not use the spray paint near sources of ignition or glowing objects. Do not inhale the spray chalk aerosol and avoid contact with the eyes or skin.
Chalk spray cans should be stored in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Please also observe the official regulations for storing pressurised gas containers (TRG300).
Disposal of the spray can
Please dispose of the empty can in the tin recycling. Cans containing residues of chalk spray should be taken to a collection point for old paint (key number: EAK No. 150104). No hazardous decomposition products are known.
For safety instructions, further information and instructions for use, please refer to our safety data sheet for allbuyone spray chalk and the safety data sheet for GRIP chalk spray.
