In the events sector, black chalk spray is a reliable, water-soluble marking spray for temporary markings at festivals, markets, city events, or construction sites. It is used for marking construction work, such as measurement points, stage area demarcation, and temporary site layout at events. It is also employed at sporting events like cycling races, marathons, and triathlons for course and field markings – the black spray chalk remains highly visible yet is easily removable. In surveying and construction, the spray is ideal for time-limited marking of drill points, routes, utility lines, or measurements on concrete and asphalt without permanently altering the surface. Black spray chalk is also popular for creative projects, such as washable street art. Whether on roads, grass, tartan tracks, snow, or forest paths – black chalk spray is a valuable tool wherever water-soluble markings that adhere for approximately 10 to 15 days are required, depending on the surface and weather conditions.
The spray adheres longer to uneven and porous surfaces, as the dissolved chalk seeps into gaps, such as on gravel, paving stones, or cracked roads. The biodegradable chalk spray leaves no environmentally harmful residues. Thanks to its writable, upside-down nozzle, the chalk spray can be applied from any angle and used to create precise lines with sharp edges – by hand or with a marking aid. Without spray mist or colour loss, it can cover 200 linear metres or an area of approximately 2 m².

Water-soluble chalk spray: the spray can be safely removed without leaving any residue
Chalk spray is perfect for short-term labelling, marking and floor marking. Chalk is water-soluble, and as a general rule, the spray will last for about 10 to 15 days depending on the weather, and sometimes for weeks if it doesn't rain much. Of course, the marker spray can also be removed with water without leaving any residue. Please be sure to follow the instructions for removing the colour!

What is chalk spray?
A can of spray chalk contains countless finely dissolved particles of water-soluble chalk, mixed with alcohol, which evaporates quite quickly when sprayed. When using chalk spray, the binder-free colour particles settle on the sprayed surface, but do not adhere firmly to the substrate (material). In many cases, mechanical removal of chalk spray takes care of itself; rain and mechanical abrasion, for example by pedestrians or cars, ensure that the colour is removed over time by itself.
How long does chalk spray last?
Chalk is ideal for short-term marking and labelling. However, it is not possible to give a general answer as to how long the marking spray will last. The adhesion of the colour is highly dependent on:
- the weather
- the various surfaces (material) on which the spray is to adhere.
The influence of the weather should definitely be taken into account when using chalk spray. A lot of water from frequent rain can dissolve the paint after just a few days. On the other hand, during a heatwave, the chalk can remain for several weeks . Chalk spray adheres to both smooth and porous surfaces. When (large-scale) marker spray is used , its durability is also influenced by mechanical abrasion, the applied layer thickness and pigment fly.
Removing chalk spray prematurely or removing chalk residue
Do you want to remove the chalk spray prematurely and don't want to wait for the rain? No problem! Lots of warm water will help you to clean it off without leaving any residue. However, in some cases, problems may arise when removing chalk spray: this mainly affects brittle and porous surfaces (e.g. coarse concrete, tree bark, asphalt).
This is not due to the solubility of the chalk itself, butto the difficulty of reaching deposited chalk residues that have settled in deep structures (joints, grooves) of the surfaces and have no runoff available. For manual removal, you can use a rough broom, sponge or high-pressure cleaner; for other areas, you can also use sand or liquid detergent concentrate. In general, it can be said that darker colours, such as black or red, are often more difficult to remove than light colours.
For porous, absorbent surfaces, we recommend testing the removability using water pressure on a small area in advance.
: Take care with textured, highly absorbent surfaces and painted substrates, as well as with materials that are not alcohol-resistant! Chalk spray used on asphalt in midsummer can penetrate deep into the road surface when the tar melts. The fine-pored, crystalline surface of zebra crossings is also unsuitable and should not be sprayed with chalk spray. We also advise against using chalk spray on car paintwork.
General information on the safety of the chalk spray
For your own safety, please note the following points when using chalk spray:
- Do not smoke.
- Avoid contact with eyes and skin.
- only allow children to use the chalk spray under supervision
- Do not inhale spray paint aerosols.
- The container is pressurised and should therefore not be opened by force during or after use.
- Do not use chalk spray in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 50°C.
- Do not spray near highly flammable or glowing objects.
Storage instructions
Whether paint spray or chalk marker spray, it is recommended to store it in a dry place protected from direct sunlight. In addition, there are official regulations for the storage of pressurised containers (TRG 300).
What is the legal situation regarding spray chalk?
areoftenasked whether it is legal to use spray chalk on public roads. Using spray chalk on pavements or roads, for example, is considered special use and is subject to authorisation.
Disposing of chalk spray
Chalk spray cans that have not been completely emptied can be disposed of at a hazardous waste collection point (EAK no. 150104). Completely empty chalk spray cans can be recycled with conventional tinplate.

Variant: Colour black
Da muss man richtig waschen.
