: Do you need several ready-made fabrics, curtains, etc.? Then simply add another item and the total price will be particularly favourable!
Please note:
In our sewing room, we manufacture individual solutions, special shapes or multiple folds in curtains with the greatest care and years of experience. With the Molton Configurator, you can have decorative molton made to measure according to your needs. There are various options to choose from. You can find a clear explanation here of which options are best for what, how the fabrics are best attached and what else needs to be considered:
Here you can get the molleton fabric as a straight cut by the metre in the desired length and width. The side edges are cut straight, but not hemmed. Simply cut decorative molleton is perfect for further processing, for example for frame covers, shirting etc.
for mounting: For mounting cut fabrics, we recommend Holdon Clips, which you can buy in the shop in the Midi and Mini versions. Alternatively, you can staple the decorative fabrics; we also have the appropriate staplers in our range.
Suitable for: coverings, shirting, panelling, covering objects for light installations and much more.
When using molton fabrics as decorative fabrics in theatre or event applications, hemming molton is the simplest way of finishing them. You decide whether the fabrics should be hemmed all around or only on individual edges. There are also two hem widths to choose from: the standard hem measures approx. 2.5 cm, the extra-wide hem approx. 5 cm (the extra-wide hem is only possible on the bottom edge).
for attaching: Hemmed molton fabric can be easily attached with Holdon Clips, which, depending on the version, can hold up to 70 kg of fabric with their patented snap-in system. Molton can thus be stretched taut without annoying wrinkles.
Suitable for: photo background, studio background, wall covering, throw
The fabric is provided with rustproof stainless steel eyelets, optionally at 25 cm or 50 cm intervals. Please note: the greater the distance, the fewer the folds in the curtain. The inner diameter of the eyelets is 16 mm (outer diameter 32 mm). When sewing the eyelets, a belt strap is sewn in for stabilisation and the edge is hemmed.
The 25 cm eyelet is also available with an enclosed (not firmly sewn on!) tie band (length approx. 33 cm), which can be used to easily hang curtains. This variant can only be selected for the top edge.
for mounting: Mounting eyed molleton is extremely easy. You can use tie-tapes, narrow bars, steel cables or similar to quickly mount the fabrics on trusses, stage elements, bars or frames. Decorative fabrics with all-round eyelets can be tightened using bungee cords or cable ties.
Suitable for: ceiling danglers, curtains, backdrops, wall panelling, frame covering
Here, the decorative molton is also equipped with rustproof stainless steel grommets (inner diameter 16 mm, outer diameter 32 mm), the grommet spacing is 25 cm. A webbing strap is sewn in to reinforce the edges. In addition, ties are included with this variant (not sewn to the fabric!). One tie per eyelet. This allows the decorative fabric to be tied to trusses, bars, etc.
Suitable for: ceiling suspensions, curtains, backdrops, and much more.
A weighted lead tape is sewn into the lower edge of the fabric. The lead tape is used for weighting, so the molleton fabric hangs smoother and tighter.
Please note: the option of adding a lead weight can only be selected for the bottom edge.
Suitable for: A weighted lead tape is particularly suitable for lightweight decorative molton for curtains, wall coverings and other fabrics that are hung vertically and should hang smoothly.
There are two versions of the hemstitch (also called tunnel hemstitch) to choose from: a hemstitch with a diameter of approx. 3 cm (5 cm laid flat) and a hemstitch with a diameter of approx. 9 cm (15 cm laid flat). This finish is inexpensive and versatile.
Molton with a tunnel hem can be hung taut or gathered as needed.
for mounting: Rods or steel cables can be pushed through the hem.
Suitable for: fabric background, curtain, wall covering at trade fairs, permeable backdrops, etc.
A fleece tape is sewn onto the upper edge of the molton, while a complementary velcro tape with a self-adhesive backing (included in the scope of delivery) can be attached to stage elements, studio equipment or even walls as required. The molton with hook and loop tape can be hung up and taken down as needed. You can order decorative molton with hook and loop tape in either 2 cm or 5 cm widths. The hook and loop tape is black; white hook and loop tape is used for white molton.
A]2 cm wideVelcro/fleecetapeis sufficient for attaching Molton up to 4 m high. Decorative fabrics over 4 m high should be provided with a 5 cm wide Velcro/fleece tape.
for attachment: The fleece tape is sewn firmly onto the fabric, and the matching self-adhesive velcro tape is simply stuck onto the desired surface. Important: The surface should be clean, dust-free and grease-free. And press firmly to achieve optimal adhesion!
Suitable for: exhibition walls, photo backgrounds, skirting boards, stage coverings, buffet coverings,
Decorative molton with crimped tape creates beautiful folds. The crimped tape consists of a drawstring and a loop tape. The drawstring is used to adjust the folds: the tighter the fabric is pulled together, the stronger the folds. The loop tape is used for hanging with hooks. Gimp tape (approx. 2 cm wide) is used for up to 3 m in height, for longer curtains we sew extra robust heavy-duty tape that is 3 cm wide. The gimp tape is chosen by our sewing department to match the colour of the fabric (black, white, beige, bordeaux or light grey), the heavy-duty tape is white.
for hanging: Molton with crimped tape is hung using hooks (standard plastic roller hooks or special stainless steel hooks), which are simply hooked into the individual loops.
Suitable for: all types of curtains and linings
: The width of the fabric is reduced by the crimping. Therefore, please multiply the actual width required by a factor of 1.6 to 2.0, depending on how much you want to crimp the curtain later, and order this value in the configurator.
Example: You need a 2 m wide curtain and would like to have it heavily ruffled. 2 m x 2.0 = 4.0 m. So you order the curtain with a width of 4.0 m in the configurator, but the ruffling reduces it to 2 m.
Required width x 1.6 = curtain with few folds
Required width x 2.0 = curtain with lots of folds/strong ruffling
In this case, a pleat tape is sewn onto the back of the curtain, which, when pulled together, creates even triple pleats. The pleat tape is 5 cm wide. The pleat tape also has a loop tape for hanging with hooks (plastic roll hooks or stainless steel hooks). The pleat tape is made of transparent plastic material.
Suitable for use as: curtain, skirting, stage covering
for installation: Hooks are suitable for hanging, either conventional plastic roller hooks or stainless steel hooks. From a curtain height of 3 m, we recommend stainless steel hooks because of the heavy weight of the stage molton.
: This configuration uses fabric at a ratio of 1:2.5, i.e. 2.5 m of fabric is needed for a 1 m wide curtain. When ordering, please specify your required width; the configurator will automatically calculate the amount of fabric needed for processing!
Please note that when cutting Molton, there may be a production-related deviation of +/- 1% from the ordered dimensions.
Would you like to buy decorative molton customised and are not sure how to have the fabric sewn? There are many different variations of folds, elaborately processed curtains with gathering, simple molton curtains with tunnel seams or eyelets – we would be happy to advise you on the finishing personally!
Our molton sewing room only uses first-class German molton. The decorative molton customised for you is made of 100% cotton. The decorative fabric B1 is roughened on both sides and has a weight of 160 g/m². Molton has sound-absorbing and light-absorbing properties. The difference between stage molton and decorative molton is the weight and weave density. Decorative molton is translucent. Stage molton, on the other hand, is a dense B1 fabric (light-proof in black) with better technical properties.
Deco-Molton is a high-quality decorative fabric, the material is characterised by the following properties:
: decorative molton is not light-proof, and is therefore not suitable for use as a stage curtain.
Molton is impregnated to make it flame retardant. The fabric meets high fire protection requirements and is certified according to DIN 4102 B1 and classified as C-s1,d0 according to the Europe-wide EN 13501-1. The Molton fabric is therefore approved for use at events, on stages, in theatres and in exhibition stand construction, as well as in public facilities. We will be happy to send you the molton certificate for all molton fabrics that you purchase here.
We have decorative molton in stock in 7 colours:
Special colour requests can be realised with an order quantity of 500 running metres or more. For this, we only need the RAL or Pantone colour you require. Tip: Since the B1 fabric is made especially for you, you can also choose the grammage.
Please note that the photographic and schematic representation of colours may vary depending on the monitor settings. Therefore, our example images and colour tiles are not colour-binding and may turn out lighter or darker in reality.

We offer a range of products for attaching and processing Molton:
The following applies to flame-retardant decorative fabrics with a B1 certificate: the flame retardancy of B1 fabrics is lost through washing, ironing or drying. The flame retardant impregnation of the B1 decorative fabrics is also gradually lost with constant mechanical stress. It is best to re-impregnate Molton with the flame retardant Bioretard, which is particularly suitable for cotton fabrics.
Note: Only if the flame retardants are applied correctly will the cotton fabrics be flame retardant again after impregnation in accordance with DIN 4102. In general, you should test the fabrics in an inconspicuous place to see whether, for example, eyelets or similar accessories are changed or damaged by the fire retardants.
