The Adam Hall Defender 3 is a robust cable protector that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It is equipped with 3 medium-sized channels (channel 1: 5.2 x 4.9 cm; channel 2: 4.5 x 5.0 cm; channel 3: 5.6 x 4.9 cm) for optimal cable routing. With a high load capacity of 5 t on an area of 20 x 20 cm , the overrun protection is suitable for heavy-duty traffic, such as that found on construction sites or in road traffic. The cable protectors are 100 cm long, 60 cm wide and 7.3 cm high and equipped with an integrated carrying handle for optimal handling. The weight is approx. 23 kg.

The special feature of this model is the dovetail-shaped connecting pins. These connecting pieces have special pre-drilled holes for optional additional floor anchoring. This detail prevents slipping even under high loads and ensures additional safety. The cable protectors are made from 100% recyclable TPU and PE ( thermoplastic polyurethane and polyethylene) and are produced in Germany. They are free from plasticisers. The Defender 3 is certified to flame protection class B2, but is also available in B1 (flame retardant) on request.

The cable protector is resistant to oil, petrol and acid and has a high chemical resistance . The temperature resistance of is very high, ranging from -30°C to +60°C. The hardness range of the Defender 3 is 88 Shore ± 4, which speaks for the exceptional robustness of the product. The combination of the black housing and yellow cover makes the cable protector easy to see and provides a high warning effect even from a distance. The ribbed surface offers passers-by optimum grip, so that crossing is not dangerous. The Defender 3 is TÜV SÜD-certified and is regularly subjected to demanding tests.

Assembly of the Defender 3 cable protector

The Defender 3 model differs from the standard cable protectors in the Defender series in that it has removable connecting pins . These can be used for additional floor anchoring thanks to a hole in the middle. Two of these are included in the scope of delivery for each cable protector. Additional connecting pins can be purchased separately as accessories.

The secure tongue and groove locking system is easy to use. The elements are joined vertically. This prevents the elements from separating due to lateral forces when people are passing by. Any number of Defender 3 elements can be connected from the individual cable protectors. For correct use, the cable protectors must be positioned on a firm, level surface. The next module is pressed down from above with the female part onto the male end of the cable protector already in place. Repeat this process until the distance to be bridged has been reached. If a change of direction is necessary, we recommend the Defender 3 C element (available on request), which allows a 45° bend. This ensures that the cables are covered throughout and are not exposed.

To lay the cables in the cable ducts, the flexible cover on the opposite side of the hinges is folded upwards at the recess. The cover stays in this position on its own. The exposed ducts can now be used to lay the cables. Once the cables have been laid from start to finish, the covers can be folded back down and pressed firmly into place.

Full protection and load capacity only with proper installation: Make sure that the cable protector has been connected to form a closed line and that the elements are flush. The cover must snap firmly into the base so that the trip protection does not become a tripping hazard. Please also ensure that the individual components are at the same height and that there are no major uneven areas between the individual ducts. This is the only way to ensure that the connectors fit together seamlessly and that the full load capacity is maintained. The cable protector is not suitable for bridging shafts, trenches or other depressions. Furthermore, you must not support platforms, crossbars, scaffolding or similar structures on the cable protector.

Notes on cleaning and storage

The Defender 3 cable protectors are equipped with a patented, self-cleaning hinge. Most of the dried dirt that accumulates on the underside is removed automatically when the cover is opened and closed. In case of heavy soiling, the cable protector can also be cleaned with a steam jet. After cleaning, it is recommended to store the cable protector lying down and not standing upright. Excess lubricant should be removed after cleaning or maintenance.

Cable protectors are used to protect cables from weather-related and mechanical damage. However, they not only protect cables and wires from mechanical stress, but also prevent passers-by from tripping. The Defender 3 cable protector is a very good all-rounder that can be used both in areas with heavy foot traffic and for heavy-duty traffic.

Nubs on the underside of the cable protector ensure good grip on the floor. The special feature of the Defender 3 are the removable, dovetail-shaped connecting pieces with a central hole, which can be used for additional floor anchoring if required.

A ribbed structure on the top of the cable protector provides good slip resistance for people and vehicles. Cable protectors are used in the event sector, on construction sites, in warehouses, exhibitions or shopping centres.

Defender 3 cable protectors are suitable for low-voltage cables (up to 500 V, such as communication, control and power supply cables) and thus offer protection against voltage transfer. Rigid gas pipes should not be laid in this cable protector. Please note: Cable protectors should always be driven over slowly. Sudden braking and turning on the spot will damage the overrun protection.

Extreme temperatures cause changes in the materials. TPU also softens in intense heat. At low temperatures, the material may lose its elasticity and become harder.

Is the Defender 3 approved for road use?

The Defender 3 cable protector is TÜV SÜD-certified, but does not have special road traffic approval. However, such approval is not necessary, as there is no approval for cable protectors, speed bumps and similar devices. The Federal Ministry of Transport and the TÜV Rheinland point out that, in the absence of legal regulations on minimum ground clearance for passenger cars, vehicle owners must first check for themselves whether they can drive over an obstacle or not.

For example, the TÜV general inspection of motor vehicles specifies in its VdTÜV Merkblatt 751 information sheet that vehicles with a lowered suspension, occupied by a driver and with a full fuel tank, must be able to pass over an obstacle with a height of 110 mm (width 800 mm) without coming into contact with it.

The Defender 3 cable protector has a height of 73 mm and is therefore within the specified tolerance.
