How do I use Safeimp® fire retardants?
The application of the fire protection spray Safeimp® varies depending on the nature and condition of the materials to be impregnated. In principle, we recommend that you carry out a fire protection test for your own safety.
- Ready-sewn fabrics can be dipped in the flame retardant. Materials that have already been decorated can be sprayed with Safeimp® fire protection spray.
Afterwards, the objects must dry at room temperature. Be careful with light-coloured materials! They are usually very sensitive to flame retardants and the treatment can change their colour. We always recommend a preliminary test in an inconspicuous place. - Cut fabrics can be dipped into the flame retardants and then spun to 60 to 70% residual moisture. After that, the fabric panels must dry at room temperature. Again, please be careful with light-coloured fabrics!
- Straw, hay, raffia, coconut fibres or dried flowers can either be dipped into a flame retardant bath or sprayed with the fire protection spray. It is also possible to apply the spray with a brush. In this case, it is essential to check the tensile strength of the materials in advance. It is also advisable to test the colour fastness of the materials in advance.
How much flame retardant do I need to comply with the fire protection regulations?
The amount of flame retardants required depends on the absorbency of the product and the type and structure of the material. According to the manufacturer, the application rate for Safeimp is 0.2-0.5 l/m².
For hay, reeds, straw, willow and similar, the material must be particularly well soaked and absorbent (uncoated) in order to achieve an optimal flame-retardant finish.
Safeimp® is very effective because the concentration of the active ingredient is very high. According to the manufacturer, preliminary flame tests are still necessary on your material!
How well does the Safeimp® fire protection spray agree with my skin?
This flame retardant]has a pH value of 6.5-7.5 in the unobtrusive range. In practice, however, we still recommend the use of protective gloves as a matter of principle. A pharmaco-toxicological report on the flame retardant can be requested directly from the manufacturer.
What do I have to bear in mind when using Safeimp® fire protection spray?
- Materials treated with flame protection spray may lose their fire protection if used for long periods. Similarly, dust, grease or nicotine deposits reduce the desired effect of the fire protection impregnation. It is therefore recommended that the materials be cleaned regularly and re-treated with flame retardants.
- Even after treatment with flame protection spray, the materials must not be heated above 130°C.
- Take care with light-coloured fabrics! They are particularly sensitive to colour. Treatment with flame retardants could affect colour fastness. We recommend that you always test the product on an inconspicuous area before treatment.
Is there an EC safety data sheet for the flame retardant Safeimp®?
An EC safety data sheet for flame retardants can be requested directly from the manufacturer.
How long can I store the fire retardants Safeimp®?
The fire protection spray Safeimp® has a shelf life of at least 3 years when stored in a closed container. The active ingredient is not sensitive to frost.
