Theatre Curtain

The theatre curtain (stage curtain) is an important part of stage equipment. Theatre curtains have various functions: as the main curtain separating the stage from the auditorium, as a stage backdrop ( ) or as a prospect curtain dividing the stage into individual areas. The curtain is made of stage velvet, Trevira, stage molton or other fabrics. Important for stage curtains in event supplies: they should have certain properties such as being flame retardant, non-reflective and sound-absorbing.

Theatre curtains are available in a wide variety of designs – classic main curtains, gathered curtains (cloud curtains), Wagner curtains and prospect curtains are just a few of the options. There are many different pleat variations, elaborately finished stage curtains with opulent gathering, simple curtains made of molton with tunnel seams or even a molton curtain with eyelets. Eyelet molton fabrics (with metal eyelets) are often used for stage backdrops, as photo backdrops, as backdrops for stages, green boxes or blue boxes, or for pipe and drape applications.

Theatre curtain made of molton – flame retardant in accordance with DIN 4102 and DIN EN 13501-1

A theatre curtain made of molton from allbuyone meets all requirements for theatres, cinemas and other event venues. The curtain is made of 100% cotton, is hard-wearing and has a flame-retardant finish. All materials used on public stages must have this property. All stage curtains from allbuyone have B1 certification in accordance with DIN 4102 ( ) and therefore comply with the fire safety regulations for most assembly venues. Molton from allbuyone also complies with classification C-s1, d0 in accordance with DIN EN 13501-1.

Stage molton is sound-absorbing – ideal as a sound curtain

The 300 g/sqm black stage molton is opaque and light-proof. In addition, theatre curtains made of molton are sound-absorbing thanks to a roughened surface and therefore ensure pleasant acoustics.

The curtain has eyelets at the top edge, ensuring regular folds and easy hanging. The nickel-plated, rustproof brass eyelets are spaced 25 cm apart. To prevent tearing under heavy loads, the curtains are reinforced on the eyelet side with an internal webbing strap. The curtain has fixed woven edges on each side and the bottom edge is hemmed.

Our sewing department has extensive experience with B1 fabrics for theatres and stages. When manufacturing a theatre curtain, visual criteria should not be the only factor to consider. In order to make the most of the fabric's properties, a number of things need to be taken into account.

If you want your stage curtain to be particularly sound-absorbing, we recommend calculating sufficient fabric and adding extra pleats. In this case, the curtain is made with narrow pleats.

If the stage curtain is to be used primarily as a main curtain and needs to be light-, black molton is recommended. The lighter the colour of the theatre curtain, the more light- it is. This criterion also plays a role when planning blackout curtains or a main curtain that is intended to separate the stage area and auditorium in a theatre or cinema in a light- manner. Stage molton is always opaque. An opaque curtain made of molton can therefore be chosen in any colour.

The curtain is made of 100% cotton and is generally very easy to care for. However, in order not to lose the fire protection impregnation and to avoid damage (e.g. fluffing, shrinkage), a few points should be observed. Please refer to the information sheet in the data sheets section.

The flame retardant treatment of the curtains is lost during dry cleaning and at temperatures above 30°C. Damp storage and long storage times also have a negative effect on the flame retardant treatment. Heavy mechanical stress on the theatre curtain over a longer period of time also counteracts the flame retardant treatment. Curtains can be re-impregnated with Bioretard.
