Decorative molton material and properties
Decorative molton is a B1 fabric made of 100% cotton. The fabric is roughened on both sides and impregnated with a flame retardant. Decorative molton has a weight of 160 g/m², making it significantly lighter than stage molton. The decorative fabric is translucent, matt and does not reflect. Decorative molton is cheaper than all other molton fabrics, which is why it is often used for decorative purposes in scenery construction, for stage decoration or as a cheaper black molton for event needs. Decorative molton is a flame-retardant decorative fabric
is impregnated to be flame retardant. In accordance with DIN 4102, decorative molton is certified B1 for flame retardant materials. In addition, decorative molton from allbuyone corresponds to classification C-s1, d0 according to DIN EN 13501-1 (EN 13773). Decorative molton – uses
B1 decorative molton can be used in a variety of ways. Decorative molton is often purchased as a ceiling or wall covering. The lightweight molton fabric is used in stage design at the theatre, as a photo background fabric, for stages at schools and public institutions, in trade fair construction and even for private decorations. Decorative molton B1 is also often used for shop window decoration in retail or for party or wedding decorations.
Decorative molton for theatre sets and stage decoration
It is not only stage molton B1 that is used in theatres. The cost-effective, lightweight decorative molton is also popular for constructing backdrops and decorations. The range of colours available enables creative stage decorations and backdrops, and at 160g, molton is easier to handle. This lightweight molton can also be glued using adhesive textile tape.
Decorative molton for events
Decorative molton also serves to creatively design events. With decorative molton fabrics, ceilings and walls can be quickly and inexpensively covered. Stage cladding or skirting, i.e. cladding for furniture, can be colourfully realised. Covers can be sewn to match. Decorative molton can also be used as a light-permeable B1 fabric for lighting objects or light installations. Rooms can be visually divided using vertically hanging ceiling and wall drapes. If you want to drape decorative molton as a fabric ceiling, pagoda or tent ceiling, its light weight makes it easy to work with. However, decorative molton is not sprinkler-compatible, which should usually be taken into account in trade fair construction or in professional event locations.
Decorative molton black in the photo studio
As a photo studio accessory, decorative molton serves as a background for advertising and product photography. Used as a black portrait background, decorative molton enables high-contrast shots. The roughened, matt surface of the molton fabric absorbs flashlights. In principle, single-colour fabric backgrounds made of decorative molton enable sharp image quality. Decorative molton can be made with a tunnel seam for photo studio use, so that a rod can be pushed through it at the top and bottom. You can also order molton with eyelets online for tensioning backgrounds without creasing them. However, if you want to use a lot of tension here, we recommend that you have the molton customised with 300g.
B1 decorative molton care
Molton fabrics are impregnated with a flame retardant and are not permanently flame retardant. Washing molton, dry cleaning, strong mechanical stresses and temperatures above 30°C counteract the flame retardancy and can also cause the molton to shrink and become linty.

Impregnating Molton
Molton and other products can be treated with flame retardants for public events and made flame retardant. However, the fabrics only comply with DIN 4102 again if the flame retardant spray is applied correctly.
Molton storage
We recommend storing molton on rolls to prevent the B1 fabric from creasing. A cardboard roll, e.g. a carpet roll, is best suited for this purpose. Molton fabrics are highly absorbent, so make sure they are stored in a dry place to avoid mould stains.
Note on colour
B1 decorative molton is a natural product. Consequently, minimal colour deviations may occur when large quantities are purchased. The manufacturer always uses the same colour shade to dye the fabric, but the colour absorption properties can vary from batch to batch.
