Self-welding adhesive tape: tesa® 4600 (silicone)
Whether for quick repairs, insulating electrical cables, protecting against corrosion or sealing holes in water pipes and hoses, and for many other applications, self-welding insulating tape (silicone sealing tape) is a premium adhesive tape in industrial quality and designed for demanding use under extreme conditions. The tape has excellent properties and will impress you immediately. Even under water or when wrapped around dirty, wet and oily surfaces, it has outstanding physical and chemical properties and seals reliably. The repair tape offers maximum temperature resistance (-65°C to +260°C), high UV and ozone resistance, and is resistant to many chemicals, oils, acids, solvents and salt water. As an insulating tape, it is suitable for electrical applications and offers a dielectric strength of 8000 volts.
Insulation and repair are extremely easy: the permanently elastic, self-welding insulating adhesive-tape/repair tape is made of an extremely flexible material (silicone tape, elongation at break 750%), demonstrates maximum adaptability, adheres to almost any surface and is extremely easy to use: Wrap the tape under tension (stretch) – it seals itself immediately. A hermetic seal is then permanently guaranteed.
By the way: self-welding adhesive tape is also perfect for temporary applications. Since the sealing tape reacts exclusively with its own carrier and adheres without adhesive, it can be removed at any time without leaving any residue.
What is self-welding adhesive tape?
A self-welding (cold-welding) sealing tape is designed for permanent, airtight and watertight sealing or insulation and can therefore be used for a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications. The tape can also be used to repair live cables. The silicone (SI) tape is free of adhesive and therefore does not conduct electricity. The extremely stretchable, permanently elastic and adaptable carrier (silicone mixture) bonds with itself when processed under tensile stress or pressure (contact pressure). The self-bonding process of the adhesive tape then provides permanent strength that does not allow reuse.
It is easy to use: remove the liner (cover foil), wrap the tape around the object (stretch to at least twice its length), press down – done! As the tape is not self-adhesive and therefore no adhesive comes into contact with the surface, it can be removed easily and without leaving any residue.

By the way: The more the self-welding tape is stretched when wrapped and the more pressure is applied to the joints, the faster the welding process starts. After 60 to 80 seconds, the bond begins to become permanent. For electrical applications, it is sufficient to wrap the self-welding tape with a double overlap. When repairing parts that are under pressure, such as hoses, pipes and other lines, these must be provided with additional wraps (3 to 5). This process can be repeated at any time.
Application of self-adhesive repair tape / insulating tape
The self-welding tape can be used reliably for sealing and insulating indoors and outdoors, under water, on dirty and oily surfaces and in extreme heat or cold. A premium tape you can rely on! Below are some typical applications:
Insulating tape: Self-adhesive tape for electrical insulation
The self-welding adhesive tape is suitable for insulating and protecting cables, wires and their connections and plugs. For electrical insulation, it is usually sufficient to stretch the insulating tape to twice its length and wrap it around the welded area under tension (100% overlap). The tape insulates reliably up to a voltage of 8 kV.
Repair tape: A hole in pipes and hoses? No problem!
To seal water pipes and hoses or to repair a high-pressure leak (underwater pipe), the maximum pressure resistance of 12 bar can be achieved by wrapping 4 layers. Please ensure that the self-welding tape is also placed next to the hole. A sufficient seal can be achieved by overlapping approx. 5-12 cm on both sides next to a leak.
