Adhesive cloth tape GT 571 for professional bonding

The professional adhesive tape has a very high adhesive strength on almost any surface, both inside and outside. The Gaffa has a very fine-meshed fabric, which clings perfectly to smooth and uneven surfaces and is therefore very easy to stick . The PE coating of the tape (total thickness 0.3 mm!) is particularly durable and abrasion-resistant, and the fabric adhesive tape can withstand the most extreme conditions. The weatherproof and waterproof tape can be used in a wide range of temperatures(-35°C to +80°C). The adhesive force of this cloth tape increases steadily, but the tape can still be removed from most surfaces without leaving any residue for up to 48 hours. Since the gentle adhesive system (pressure-sensitive, non-corrosive) is also suitable for bonding to sensitive surfaces, the cloth tape is considered the professional all-rounder for event supplies and is therefore the most popular duct tape in our shop.

The cloth tape]is very good for making hand-torn repairs. Both lengthwise and crosswise, it tears cleanly and precisely.

How can you tell the quality of an adhesive tape?

offers cloth tapes in many qualities and at almost every price. Unfortunately, using the adhesive strength as the only quality feature, along the lines of "stickswell, is good", is not enough to definitively assess the quality of gaffa tape. The quality features of a tape depend on a variety of factors.

To make it a little easier for you, however, the main differences can be summarised quite well in just three points:

1. the structure of the fabric is an essential point in terms of application/processing.

The finer the weave, the cleaner the tear when the gaffa tape is torn by hand. The finely structured professional tapes allow for a comfortable and clean hand tear in both the transverse and longitudinal direction. When it comes to gluing, finely structured adhesive cloth tapes such as GT 571 also offer advantages in terms of their ability to adapt to different shapes. The tape is more flexible when gluing curves and corners and also bonds better with rough, irregular surfaces. The coarser the structure of a gaffer tape, the lower the adhesive forces (attaching forces) of the adhesive tape.

2. The surface coating also has special properties.

Uncoated gaffer tapes tend to be matt and non-reflective (e.g. Pro Gaff Tapes) – a desirable property, for example, for bonding to film and photo sets or on stage. On the other hand, these tapes are often only water-repellent in outdoor applications. A tape with a coating (e.g. Gaffa GT 571 / PE-coated), on the other hand, is particularly robust, has a high abrasion resistance and is waterproof after bonding.

3. The right adhesive system is an important factor in finding the right tape.

The initial adhesion of a tape is defined as "the adhesive strength ofa cloth tape at the first moment of contact with the substrate". The natural rubber adhesive of duct tape GT 571 is pressure-sensitive. This means that the adhesive has a high initial tack and can often even be repositioned after bonding.

Adhesion power, on the other hand, is defined as: "Adhesion power refers to the force required to pull an adhesive strip off a bonded surface." However, you should be careful here, because this value alone does not say much. The adhesive strength depends not only on the basic properties of the adhesive tape, but also on several other factors: for example, weather conditions, temperatures, contact pressure and the materials to which the tape is applied (rough, structured or smooth) also have a decisive influence on the adhesive strength of an adhesive tape.

What does non-corrosive adhesive mean?

Some adhesives are designed to bond with the substrate. This is a desired property for permanent bonding per se. However, some aggressive adhesives migrate into the substrate, bond with it inseparably and can leave discolouration or structural changes (adhesive damage) on the substrate. If you only want to affix the tape temporarily – as is often the case in event supplies, for example – you should make sure to use a non-corrosive adhesive. This adhesive allows not only permanent bonding but also bonding to "sensitive surfaces", because it can be removed without causing any damage.

What role does the stretchability of an adhesive tape play in its application?

The GT 571 adhesive cloth tape has a fabric with good elasticity and an elasticity of 13 per cent. This is an important characteristic for industrial adhesive tapes . This figure indicates the percentage by which the cloth tape can be stretched before it tears. Stretchable adhesive tapes have a high breaking elongation (synonyms : breaking strength / elongation at break / tear strength) and are therefore particularly suitable for processing under tension.

Fabric adhesive tape, glossy

The GT 571 adhesive tape is poly-coated and has a glossy surface finish. Depending on the type of use, however, this can be a disadvantage: in film and photo shoots, for example, lighting and flashlights can cause reflections with this tape, thus negatively affecting the quality of the shots.

How to store and use adhesive tapes

Never touch the adhesive surface of the adhesive tape with your hands. You will get the best results if you stick the adhesive cloth tape onto a dust-free surface and apply strong pressure to the tape. The rougher the surface to which the tape is being stuck, the harder the duct tape should be pressed on in order to make the best use of its adhesive properties. The optimal application temperature for the GT 571 cloth tape is between +10°C and +45°C.

like bacon, but it's not! Grip GT 561 is coated with a natural rubber adhesive and may have a slight smoky odour due to the production process. This process removes moisture from the raw material, making it more stable when exposed to temperature fluctuations and less susceptible to condensation.

Store adhesive tapes at room temperature

The adhesive tape should be stored at normal humidity and temperatures between approx. +12°C and +25°C. Protect duct tape from temperature fluctuations and direct UV light to avoid unnecessary strain on the tape.

Removing adhesive cloth tape

The GT 571 adhesive tape can be removed from most materials without leaving any residue for up to 48 hours. When removing the tape, work slowly and smoothly, ideally at a 90° angle. However, if any adhesive residue remains, it can often be removed using Tesa adhesive remover, an orange cleaner or petroleum ether.
