Info: Escape route lights with continuous and standby mode
In continuous operation, the light sources of the emergency exit lamps are permanently connected to the mains. In the event of a power failure, the emergency lights then switch to emergency lighting mode. The lamp is then supplied by a battery that has been continuously charged during mains operation.
A long service life is a prerequisite! The battery of a safety light must be designed for a minimum service life of 4 years in accordance with EN 60598 .
Interesting facts about emergency exit lamps
Emergency lighting (also known as safety lighting) is mandatory for workplaces and assembly areas. This lighting enables people to leave a room or building safely in the event of danger. Special safety lights are required on escape routes and at workplaces with particular hazards.
Section 15 of the VStättVo (German Assembly Venue Ordinance) – Safety lighting – states:
"(1) Assembly venues must have safety lighting that is designed in such a way that work on stages and performance areas can be completed safely and visitors, participants and employees can find their way to public traffic areas even if the general lighting fails completely.
(2) Safety lighting must be provided
- in necessary stairwells, in rooms between necessary stairwells and exits to the outside and in necessary corridors,
- in assembly rooms and in all other rooms for visitors (e.g. foyers, cloakrooms, toilets),
- for stages and performance areas,
- in rooms for performers and employees with a floor area of more than 20m2, except for offices,
- in electrical rooms, in rooms for building services and in spotlight and projector rooms,
- in outdoor assembly areas and sports stadiums that are used after dark,
- for safety signs for exits and escape routes,
- for step lighting.
(3) In assembly rooms, on stages and on stage areas that are darkened during operation, emergency lighting must be available in standby mode. The exits, corridors and steps in the assembly room must be clearly visible even when darkened, independently of the other emergency lighting. Step lighting is not required for corridors in assembly rooms with removable seating and in sports stadiums with safety lighting.
