Escape signs must be present at all times, both at events and in workplaces. In an emergency, the emergency exit sign provides quick and clear orientation: a glance at the combination sign with directional arrow is enough to easily identify the direction of escape to the emergency exit or escape route. The photoluminescent emergency exit signs are suitable for escape route marking where there is no emergency lighting. You can order the following versions in our shop:
The emergency exit sign is made of plastic (PVC) and shows the rescue sign with directional arrow according to DIN EN 7010 for escape route marking. It is a combination sign (symbol and arrow) that complies with the currently valid regulations. Photoluminescent rescue signs are always required as long as no additional emergency lighting is provided. The previous ASR A1.3 specifications for escape routes now apply to all rescue and firesafety signs. In addition, special requirements have been formulated for luminance: DIN 67510-1 :2020-05 Class C, which the photoluminescent emergency exit sign also fulfils.
The wall mounting of the emergency exit sign is extremely simple: the sign can be mounted on the wall, for example, using double-sided tape, but it can also be mounted using screws.
By the way: Emergency exit signs like this one draw their luminosity from existing light, e.g. artificial or sunlight. If they have been exposed to light, they will continue to glow for up to 35 hours in the dark.
Whether it's an emergency escape sign, fire extinguisher sign or other safety signs, you can order the following additional products from allbuyone:
An emergency exit is part of the escape route. This should be designed so that people can escape as quickly as possible in panic situations to the outside or to a secure area. According to MVstättVO, escape routes should be at least 1.20 m wide for every 200 people.
ASR A1.3 states: "Safety signs must be clearly recognisable and permanently affixed. Clearly recognisable means, among other things, that safety signs must be affixed at a suitable height – fixed or movable – and that the lighting (natural or artificial) at the point of attachment is sufficient. Prohibition signs, warning signs and mandatory signs must be affixed visibly, taking into account any obstacles at the entrance to the danger area. Particularly in long rooms (e.g. corridors), rescue and/or firesafety signs should be recognisable in the direction of movement at all times." To ensure that the emergency exit sign is clearly recognisable and understandable at all times, the signs must be sufficiently large and correctly positioned in the direction of escape. It is recommended that they be placed at least two metres high, e.g. door guards. On festival grounds , flags at a height of 5 metres have also proven effective. In addition , an emergency exit must not be obstructed and must be accessible at all times through clearly visible escape route signage (keyword: recognition range). The guidelines are specified and checked by the fire department, the trade supervisory board or the building supervisory authority.
Good to know: Emergency exit signs (escape and rescue routes) are only allowed to be combined (pictogram and arrow). Directional arrows alone must NOT be used and are not sufficient as safety signs.
DIN SPEC 4844-4 is not a standard, but should be seen as a guide for the practical application of rescue signs. It provides suggestions for:
The emergency exit or emergency exit sign is photoluminescent and meets most official requirements for the safe marking of an escape and emergency exit.
According to BGV A8 §10 sections 2 and 3, only emergency exit signs with lighting may be used for emergency exits in unlit rooms, on unlit surfaces, at the exit or on paths without general lighting. The BGV states that if there is insufficient natural lighting of the safety signs at the installation location, the recognisability of the firesafety signs and escape route signs must be ensured by artificial lighting (e.g. general emergency lighting, battery-powered signs with emergency lighting or photoluminescent signs). This ensures that the rescue sign is easy to read even in the event of nightfall or a power failure. In the event of a power failure, the pictorial symbols remain visible and, thanks to the light-emitting edge, the geometric shape also remains recognisable with photoluminescent products. This results in a significant increase in safety compared to non-illuminated signs. In addition to the use of individual photoluminescent safety signs, it is also recommended to install floor-level safety systems or guidance markings, e.g. using a photoluminescent phosphor tape. Good to know: Photoluminescent safety signs must now at least meet the requirements of DIN 67510-1, Class C.
