The number of cable channels is an important planning basis for orderly cable routing. This is because cables and hoses laid loosely on the floor pose a considerable risk to people and equipment. Whether it's heavy foot traffic at a festival or heavy goods vehicles such as trucks and forklifts, cables laid loosely on the ground can quickly become damaged or develop into trip hazards. Good to know: The respective loads apply when the cable protectors are laid on a level, solid surface. If a cable protector is laid on sloping or soft ground, the load capacity is reduced. Temperatures also play an important role in the load-bearing capacity (mechanical hardness of the material) of a cable protector. You can find more information on this in the next paragraph.

The material of the cable protectors: PVC, rubber and polyurethane

Our selection offers you cable protectors made of different materials:

The brand-name products among the cable protectors are made of polyurethane. Polyurethane is a well-insulating, robust thermoplastic (halogen- and plasticiser-free). It is resistant to oil, solvents, acids and petrol and impresses with its enormous material hardness of 88 Shore ± 4 A. The SHORE hardness test is a method for determining the mechanical resistance (penetration depth) of a plastic/elastomer in accordance with the relevant DIN ISO standard (7619-1:2012-02, 7619-2:2012-02) at 23°C. The scale ranges from 0 Shore (2.5 mm penetration depth) to 100 Shore (0 mm penetration depth). The higher the number of the product, the harder the material.
G ood to know for the use of cable protectors outdoors: Overrun protection made of polyurethane and PVC is temperature-resistant in a range from approx. -30°C to +60°C and offers full mechanical resistance. If it is colder, the material becomes brittle; if it is hotter, PVC and polyurethane can become porous and brittle.

Ranger: PVC cable protectors – safe and affordable

In addition to the brand-name products from Defender, Yellow Jacket and Cableguard, we also offer low-priced PVC cable protectors. They also offer the best overrun protection and are highly resilient. But why are Ranger cable protectors so inexpensive? The PVC cable ducts are made from recycled PVC granulate and can therefore be offered at such a low price. However, please note before ordering: The material often gives the impression that the cable protectors are already used when delivered. Scratches and manufacturing-related colour changes are not uncommon with inexpensive PVC cable protectors.

Safety thanks to ribbed surface and non-slip underside

The slip-resistant, ribbed surfaces of the cable protectors are safe to drive over even in the rain and are also non-slip when walked on. Depending on the model, the undersides of the cable protectors are also equipped with a special profile and lie non-slip on the floor . Tip: On particularly smooth surfaces, additional rubber mats can be laid under the cable protectors. The mats provide additional support for the protectors.

By the way: The colour of the cable protectors (yellow and red) also offers safety. The high warning effect of the colour is easily visible even from a distance in poor lighting conditions.
Suitable for wheelchairs thanks to flat sides: With the exception of the rubber hose bridge, all cable protectors have continuous flat sides and a suitable height – making them suitable for wheelchairs.

Laying cable protectors: quick and safe

The cable protectors from Defender, Cableguard and Yellow Jacket can be connected securely and durably. Connection pins in the tongue and groove system enable quick installation. For particularly difficult-to-lay surfaces , the Defender 3 cable protector offers an additional system for ground anchoring. The connection pins are equipped with holes and can be optionally secured to the ground with ground anchors.

Ranger cable protectors can be laid using connecting rails on the cross edge. The elements are securely connected to each other by simply placing the end of one cable protector over the end of the next cable channel to be connected. The connecting rail then snaps into the corresponding recess.

Cable protectors: Use in road traffic

Despite their high load capacity , not all cable protectors are suitable for use in public road traffic. Always observe the applicable country-specific road traffic regulations. The installation of cable ducts in public traffic requires a permit and must also be indicated by warning signs.

According to our research , there are no legal regulations for traffic on private property . The installation of cable protectors to protect cables and hoses and as trip protection is therefore possible anywhere on private property. The height of a cable protector is important for car traffic. DEKRA recommends a clearance of 11 cm. This is to ensure that even vehicles with low ground clearance approved in accordance with the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) can drive over the cable ducts without damage.
